Financial Calculators by State

Every US state operates a completely different financial environment: different income tax rules, different sales tax rates, different property tax burdens, and different home price realities. A $100,000 salary in Texas takes home more than the same salary in California. A $400,000 home in New Jersey costs more per month than a $700,000 home in Hawaii. These differences matter enormously for real financial decisions.

This index brings together three specialized calculators for every state (mortgage, paycheck, and sales tax), each pre-loaded with real state-specific data: actual tax brackets, real median home prices, actual property tax rates, and local sales tax by city. No generic national averages, no guesswork.

Each state hub also provides a financial overview comparing income, cost of living, and total tax burden so you can make apples-to-apples comparisons between states. Use the sort and filter controls below to rank all 50 states by the metric that matters most to your decision.

States with No Income Tax

Nine states levy no state income tax on wages: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. For workers earning $75,000+, living in one of these states instead of California, New York, or Illinois can mean an additional $3,000–$15,000+ per year in take-home pay.

States with No Sales Tax

Five states charge no statewide sales tax: Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon, and Alaska (no state tax, though local taxes apply in some Alaska municipalities). For significant purchases (vehicles, home furnishings, electronics), crossing into a no-sales-tax state for a major purchase can save hundreds to thousands of dollars.
